I grew up in a ranching family
around Tahoka, Texas
until we moved to Clarendon, Texas
when I was
in High School. I guess all I ever
wanted was to be
a cowboy.
I remember
my first round up
when I was
five years old.
I ranched for over 50 years,
with my
Dad, until I was diagnosed with
multiple sclerosis(MS) in 2004.
I had to retire after that, because I
could no longer get on a horse.
I took many
fond memories with me.
Being a rancher and cowboy
was all I ever wanted to do,
and that's all I did until
multiple sclerosis changed my whole life.
This was certainly
not in my game plan.
All I had left after 50+years in the saddle
was my memories. I wanted to write about my
times so I could remember
and for my kids and grandkids know
what I did and why.
Since not many people know this lifestyle,
I thought they might be interested
in the truth about cowboys
and the real reason why they do
what they do for very little money,
very long hours,
and hard-back-breaking work.
It tells about the 3000 year old
Indian woman I dug up after seeing bones
sticking out of the dirt and other things
I found left by ancient
people, my favorite.
Charles Goodnight,
Cowman and Plainsman,
he helped settle
this wild country. I have seen no movies
or TV shows that can explain
the attraction to this way of life.
This was a way of
life I dearly loved and
I wanted to tell people about those times.
The book takes you places
you can’t see
from the highway,
at the movies or on TV.
These are true stories and all
are good reading
for all ages
and comes from the heart.
